Fr Donal is the second of five siblings, after high school he entered the novitiate of the Legion of Christ in Dublin, Ireland. After completing this first stage of his priestly formation, he spent a year in Salamanca, Spain, studying Classical Humanities at the Legion of Christ Center for Humanities Studies. Fr Donal then completed four years of Philosophy studies and five of Theology, obtaining a Licentiate (Masters) Degree in both. Ordained to the priesthood on January 3, 1981, his ministry took him to Madrid, Spain, as Director of the Center of Consecrated men of the Regnum Christi movement.
In the summer of 1982 Fr Donal was appointed Director of the Cumbres Institute in Mexico City and a year later was named Vice Rector of the Legion of Christ Novitiate in Cheshire, CT. 1988 saw him back in Spain for two years, then Ireland for two years as Rector of the Legion’s Seminary in Dublin, after which he was named Director of the women’s section of the RC movement for Santiago, Chile, a position he held for the next twenty years. During this time he traveled to other South American countries, preaching retreats, spiritual exercises and participating in Regnum Christi Conventions.
In April 2013 Fr Donal arrived in Washington DC as Director of the women’s section of that city. In 2015 he was transferred to New York, to help with the adult sections of the RC movement in the tristate area.
